Nokia 5800 is Out in December 5, Gets Previewed in Detail

•October 8, 2008 • 3 Comments

Eldar Murtazin over at Mobile-Review.com today has once again published an article previewing the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, but this time is much more detailed and it focuses on the Nokia 5800’s dimensions (size), display, audio and camera.

  • The Nokia 5800 is placed next to several other phones for size comparisons.
  • The Nokia 5800 is placed next to the Nokia N85 in dark area for display comparison.
  • Eldar reviews all kinds of keyboard on Nokia 5800–numeric keypad, mini QWERTY keyboard, full QWERTY keyboard, handwriting recognition.
  • Eldar tests the 1320mAh battery of Nokia 5800. Nokia 5800 has been proven by him to be able to squeeze out whopping 34 hours of music in real life test.
  • Eldar examines the sound quality, music player, and FM radio.
  • Camera is wholly covered–the interface, camera sample photos, and video-recording.

In last paragraphs, Eldar Murtazin calls December 5 the birthday of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, when it actually comes to the market with a retail price of the expected 279 euros. He says it will be out in Russia, and other countries but not in Western Europe. I guess it is the 7 countries that are going to get the Nokia 5800.

First Camera Sample Photos of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

•October 6, 2008 • 45 Comments

I have found out some sample photos taken in full resolution with the 3.2Mpx Carl Zeiss optics autofocusing camera of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic while surfing on a Taiwanese website called ePrice.

Thanks god, the picture quality isn’t like the one on the Nokia E66 and E71. It seems that Carl Zeiss does indeed make difference. The picture quality seems to be on par with the Nokia N78, which sports 3.2Mpx Carl Zeiss optics autofocusing camera as well. It has nice details and accurate colors.

Please be aware that the sample photos are produced in prototype units of Nokia 5800 therefore it’s very likely that the quality will be improved in the final unit.

India Gets 5800 in 3rd week of November

•October 5, 2008 • 3 Comments

An India’s newspaper site ‘The Economic Times’ reported that Nokia will ship the 5800 XpressMusic to India in the third week of November. If this is true, India is the first country to get the 5800 XpressMusic ahead of any other countries. Hmm. I have a feeling that after India, either Hong Kong or Taiwan will be getting it (so I can get it 😀 or am I just dreaming?).
Anyway, Reuters has reported that only 7 countries will be getting the Nokia 5800 by the end of 2008. I’m included! Lucky me, eh? 😀

M-R Previews the 5800 XpressMusic

Eldar Murtazin, the owner of Mobile-Review.com, has published an article that previews the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with a bunch of live pictures that he had taken at the Nokia Remix. Eldar said that its surround stereo speakers are the loudest around, even audible in loud night clubs and its audio quality through the 3.5mm audio jackport is also the best around. Build quality, which I had worried about, turned out to be no issue, as he said that it delivers a nice solid feel. Lastly, this is the one that most of you are probably wondering: according to Eldar, the 5800 can handle old S60 applications unless the apps need some special physical controls to be operative.

Nokia has published an online demo page for the 5800 XpressMusic. Here, you get to “operate” the device online. Well, not really. But still. Anyway, it is divided into 3 big categories–Touch, play, share. You might want to try it out.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Announced

•October 5, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The long awaited Nokia 5800 XpressMusic previously as known as Tube has finally been announced at the Nokia Remix show along with Comes with Music launch held in London, October 2nd 2008.

This device made its first leak back in April but personally, I was not impressed back then at all. It just looked to be a dull and hideous looking touchscreen device in the leaked pictures so I just gave a little glimpse on it and never gave any interest to the 5800 (I was very much interested in the N82 and other phones announced in Mobile World Congress 2008).

But its official announcement turned the zero-interest from me into ‘full-interest’, resulting me to make a dedicated blog for it. So what has caused me to become a 5800 junkie?

It’s the price. It is said that the 5800 will ship in this quarter costing ONLY 279 EUROS!! WHOA!! It’s bloody cheap for this kind of device which rocks many good features. The very affordable price will surely give Nokia’s competitors like Apple, Samsung and HTC run for their money.

I didn’t finish yet. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Comes with Music. Comes with Music is a service by Nokia which lets you download unlimited songs for free for one year of subscription. And you get to keep all the songs you downloaded even after the subscription is finished. What an interesting service.

Let’s have a look at the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic’s specs and the gallery. Read on.
